We had Sunday lunch to quietly celebrate my birthday. At first the service was efficient but as we got going it just got worse and worse. We both had 'New England Clam Chowder' to start - ha ! If they served that in any New England Marriott there would be a riot - a thin brew, no clams and instead of oyster crackers we got cheese biscuits! Horrid. I had ordered fish and chips as mains and that was perfectly done - had to ask for the mushy peas and tartare sauce to complete the dish as advertised but it was all very good. My partner had Mediterranean Sea Bass - nicely done with green beans.Had anything arrived without asking it would have been good. Many of the staff were poorly trained and some did not understand English at all well. Shame on you Marriott, you got good reviews in the press yet sent out the B team for us today. My husband and I had our wedding reception here last year and it was the most surprisingly amazing thing we could have done for our guests. From the outset, I wasn't too keen on the location, however the service from the first meeting with Lisa, the events manager, down to the last detail with our room management and reception was perfect. I cannot say I love the Marriott chain all over the world, but this is a jewel and it's the people who work here, that make it an outstanding place to dine and stay. We revisited on our first anniversary, and are pleased to say, the - 110% service, attention to detail, give you that little bit extra thought - was still there, if not in more evidence!

The new seafood restaurant is lovely - we're recommending it for sure!   (dp - July, 2007)
